What if Oprah waited??

In September 2014, I went to Oprah's Live the Life You Want Tour. On the first night, Ms. O stood on the stage for 2 hours, alone, in a fitted red dress, and captivated our attention by telling story after story.

She was up there being seen and being heard. She wasn't hiding behind a podium.

She wasn't covered up with a jacket.

Her curvy body was out there for the whole world to see...booty and everything.

It made me think:

What if Oprah waited until she lost weight to step out on the national stage for the first time??

We all know she's had a very public struggle with her weight...gaining and losing over the 30 years she's been in our lives. But she hasn't let it stop her from making moves and taking chances.

What if, one day back in 1986, Oprah said to Gayle: "They want to make my talk show national, but I'm going to wait until I lose 20 pounds first"?

Think about all the stuff that the world would've missed OUT on if she'd decided to wait:

-The Oprah Winfrey Show

-Oprah's Favorite Things

-Oprah's Book Club

-Super Soul Sunday

-The Oprah Effect

And speaking of the Oprah Effect, what about the people who became uber-famous as a result:

-Suze Orman

-Iyanla Vanzant (OMG, what if there were no "Iyanla, Fix My Life" on OWN???)

-Dr. Phil

-Dr. Oz (ok, I take this one back...I wish he would've remained in obscurity, but that's a conversation for another day)

What about all the charitable work she's done in the world? The way she's informed, educated, and inspired us through TV, movies, and magazines?

This may sound a little dramatic, but I can't imagine the world without her.

I decided to write this post because we women are notorious for putting life on the back burner until we shrink a few sizes.

I know I've spent many years waiting to lose weight so that I could finally live my life. Women in my family, many of my female friends, and almost all of my clients have made the conscious decision to hold off on doing something meaningful, important, or pleasurable in their lives while they lose 10 or 20 pounds.

Recently, I asked several groups of women in business what things they've put on hold while they lose weight. I heard things like: buying new clothes, networking, taking professional pictures, and shooting video for their websites.

One woman even said that she believed that success in her business was related to discipline over her body; she thought that she couldn't flourish in her business without fighting to be thin.

Unfortunately, she's not alone in that flawed thinking.

It's the same flawed thinking that makes you go on an unsustainable, misery-inducing diet and exercise routine.

It's the same flawed thinking that keeps you hiding behind your computer or only taking pictures from the neck up.

It's the same flawed thinking that we need to put an end to because it's unacceptable.

NOT being seen is NOT an option. The world needs to hear what you have to say, so it's time for you to STEP OUT.

It's time to stop saying "NO" to MAJOR opportunities in your business, career, and personal life...because no woman should have to wait until she's a size 4 to fully experience real LIVING.

The RULES of our culture tell you that you don't deserve to be seen at a certain size and that you can't possibly make a meaningful contribution to society if you're fat.

Well guess what, buttercup? It's time to break those rules because a smaller size is NOT the most important thing you can be. Going out into the world and doing what you want to do at ANY size is a revolutionary act in this country.

I want to start a revolution...and I want you to come along with me.

What is the world missing out on from YOU?? Tell me 3 things you're NOT doing in your life because you're waiting to get smaller. These 3 things are what you're holding back from yourself, your family, friends, and the rest of us. Just leave a comment below because I want to hear it.
