Yes, today’s my birthday…it’s the BIG 4-0 and I’m excited to be at this place in my life. Things are far from perfect, but I’m VERY grateful for how it’s all turned out so far.
Lately I’ve been talking a lot about breaking the crazy, arbitrary rules around food…the “eat this, don’t eat that” guidelines that tend to confuse people instead of educate them. I’ve shared with you how I’ve found freedom in re-writing my own rules and I’ve been able to transform my relationship with food and my body.
Well, I thought I had it all figured out until I realized that, even though I’ve successfully broken a lot of food rules, there are rules in other areas of my life that still have me in a choke hold.
Specifically, I’ve been holding myself back in my business, dating, relationships, and sex.
I want to have more fun and adventure in my business.
I want to go on at least 1 date every week.
I want to have more passionate, connected sex.
So, what does all that have to do with chocolate cake???
Well, have you ever been out to dinner with your girlfriends and when it’s time for dessert, one of them says “I REALLY want the chocolate cake, but I SHOULD have the berries. I’m trying to be good”?
I know you know what I’m talking about. You’ve probably been “that girl” once or twice in your life.
First of all, who the hell wants berries when there’s a delicious chocolate cake just waiting to be eaten??
Second, this is an example of how we women keep ourselves from having what we want…what we truly desire in our lives.
YOUR chocolate cake is that thing you REALLY want to experience in your life.
It’s quitting your job and launching your own dream business.
It’s initiating passionate, steamy sex with your partner.
It’s taking a 4-week trip around the world.
Here’s how you’ll know you’re overdosing on berries:
- The berries are the ‘should’, ‘shouldn’t’ and ‘supposed to’ stories that play over and over inside your head
- You feel emotionally deprived or starved…like something is missing
Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE berries. They’re good and they definitely serve a purpose.
But there are times when I just want to sink my teeth into a big, moist slice of cake.
Here’s what I’d like you to do for me on my birthday:
- In the comments below, tell me what YOUR chocolate cake is…that thing you desire, but feels like it’s off-limits
- do something to celebrate YOURSELF today
Whether it’s your birthday or not, you deserve to have what you really desire.
Life is way too short…have more cake.
